Dear Families,

Today you should expect to see:

  1. Math lesson 2.9

  2. Updates for A.R. (progress toward reading goal) and keyboarding

  3. Parent Conference Form

Mandatory fall parent teacher conferences are coming up on Tuesday, October 29. Sign-up forms went home today for you to list your time preferences. The sooner you return your paper, the more likely you are to get a time that is most convenient for you.

Did your child check out books on our Henderson Library trip? Mrs. Born has kindly offered to return them if your child brings them to school by Wednesday.

This Friday, October 18 is the last day of the quarter. The following goals must be met by this date:

  1. Any late work/missing assignments must be handed in.

  2. A.R. goal must be met or exceeded.  Students have written updates today in their planners.

  3. Your child’s keyboarding report must show an average of at least 30 minutes of practice each week. They received a report about their current average today, and wrote it in their planners.

Attendance reminder: if your child has an excusable absence (bereavement or illness) a parent must contact me or the office in order for it to be excused on record and not count against your child’s attendance grade. Thank you!

Thanks so much to those lovely parents who helped us make Grandparents Day a success with lovely food and help!

Ms. Francey Marzicola will be the fifth grade substitute from Thursday, October 17-Tuesday October 22.  I will be going to England for Grandma Betty’s 90th birthday celebration. Grandma Betty, Mr. Sleeman’s grandma, started the Gucha Orphanage in Kenya where we occasionally send our Jeans Day money. :)

Reminders for our field trip this week:

Students will need to bring:

  1. A packed lunch and wear comfortable shoes

  2. Their field trip shirt or navy SBJA polo and blue jeans or navy uniform bottoms

  3. Water bottle

  4. Sunblock recommended

Upcoming events for your calendar:

  1. Thursday October 17: Walking field trip to Armstrong Theater in Torrance to see the play Annie.

  2. Friday, October 18, last day of first quarter. (All work due on this day, late work will not be accepted).
